Child Abuse Awareness/Prevention

It is estimated one out of every four children experiences abuse of some kind. Yet only a small percentage of child abuse is ever reported. Child abuse numbers continued to rise steadily over the past 10 years, with estimates approaching over one million confirmed victims each year.

We will concentrate on Community projects for this philanthropy during the months of July / August.

Childhood Health

Each year in the U.S., approximately 12,500 children and adolescents are diagnosed with cancer. In the U.S., cancer remains responsible for more deaths from one year through adolescence than any other disease; more deaths than asthma, diabetes, cystic fibrosis and AIDS combined.

We will concentrate on Community projects for this philanthropy during the months of September / October.

Children with HIV/AIDS (Red Ribbon)

In 2000, 1,688 young people (ages 13 to 24) were reported with AIDS, bringing the cumulative total to 31,293 cases of AIDS in this age group. In young people between the ages of 13 and 19, a much greater proportion of HIV infections was reported among females (61%) than among males (39%). Cumulatively, young African Americans are most heavily affected, accounting for 56% of all HIV cases ever reported among 13- to 24-year-olds in these 34 areas.

We will concentrate on Community projects for this philanthropy during the months of May / June.

March of Dimes

Each year, more than 460,000 babies (1 in 8) are born too soon, some so small they can fit in the palm of a hand. Many of these babies must fight just to survive; others must struggle with lifelong health problems.

We will concentrate on Community projects for this philanthropy during the months of March / April.

SIDS - Sudden Infant Death Syndrome
(Blue and Pink Ribbon)

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is the sudden death of an infant under 1 year of age which remains unexplained after a thorough case investigation, including performance of a complete autopsy, examination of the death scene, and review of the clinical history.

Children’s Education (Children's Literacy) Dark Blue Ribbon

More than 20% of adults read at or below a fifth grade level far below the level needed to earn a living wage. The National Adult Literacy Survey found that over 40 million Americans age 16 and older have significant literacy needs. Helping low-literate adults improve their basic skills has a direct and measurable impact on both the education and quality of life of their children.

We will concentrate on Community projects for this philanthropy during the months of January / February.

Teen Pregnancy – (White Ribbon)

The white ribbon represent a pledge to make healthy decisions to prevent teen pregnancy during the teen years. While recent data shows that the U.S. teen pregnancy rates are falling, the United States has the highest rates of teen pregnancy and births in the western industrialized world, with thirty-five percent of young women becoming pregnant at least once before they reach the age of 20 -- about 850,000 a year. Teen mothers are less likely to complete high school (only one-third receive a high school diploma) and only 1.5% have a college degree by age 30.4.

We will concentrate on Community projects for this philanthropy during the months of November / December.
